The weather looked good with winds light east backing north east over night with rain. Initial impressions were good with the two first birds in west town a pair of Brambling.
Brambling |
The magic bush was disappointing with no birds present. I headed east with the best birds on route a Goldcrest and a late Willow Warbler. Arriving at Grace's garden I got a text to say there was a Yellow-browed Warbler in the west end trailer park. Grace's was quiet with just a few Redwing and a few Robins. A spent a few minutes talking to Eamon Meenan and a small warbler moved from the bracken to the garden. Yellow browed Warbler. It did not hang around for a photo. Moving east to Micky Meenans there were plenty of Tree Sparrows with 33 counted in one flock in his crop field.

A few more Robins were noted but still no Chiffchaff or Blackcap. Lots of birds on the path to the lake including another Brambling, thrushes and lots of Meadow Pipits.
I spent an hour at Anton's east end patch - very quiet. The only birds showing were a Chiffchaff and a Goldcrest. A 'tecking' call persisted for a couple of minutes low down in cover but the bird did not show and it appeared to move on before anyone else made it there.

On the boat home the best birds the best birds were 1 Manx Shearwater, 12 Bonxies and a Pomarine Skua.
Chris reported a Yellow-browed Warbler later in Antons patch, possibly one of the birds from earlier that day.
A reasonable day...
